Progress has not been heard since it was launched in 2013, it turns out that Iran's Qaher-313 stealth fighter jet development program is still continuing.
This information was revealed recently by the Head of the Iranian Aviation Industry Organization (IAIO) Afshin Khajeh Fard in an interview with Iranian media.
"The project is being built in two versions, one of which is unmanned aircraft and will be inaugurated in the coming months," said Fard.
Previously in February 2023, the Iranian Ministry of Defense announced that the Qaher-313 would be converted into an Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UCAV) or pilotless armed air combat vehicle.
It was informed that the first deliveries of the Qaher-313 version of the UCAV to the Iranian Air Force will take place in mid-2024, manufactured by the HESA aircraft manufacturer.
As is known, the development of the Qaher-313 previously made no significant progress since the taxi trial was carried out in 2017.
However, the IAIO has been quietly refining its design and preparing related technologies that will be used by the Qaher-313.
The Qaher-313 prototype will likely be equipped with a pair of engines reverse engineered from the General Electric J85 used by the F-5 Tiger, one of the fighter jets that is still the mainstay of the Iranian Air Force today.
As a weapon, the Qaher-313 can carry two 2,000 pound (910 kg) bombs, several small smart missiles, or at least six PL-12 class air-to-air missiles.
In the development of unmanned aircraft, it should be acknowledged that Iran's defense industry has advanced rapidly in the last decade.
Various drones were produced, from those with piston engines to jet engines. Including the production of reconnaissance/attack drones to kamikaze drones.
