Twin Rains
October 28, 2022 at Dovercourt House (Toronto)
Last October, Twin Rains was back with a vengeance at Dovercourt House — in order to get inside, attendees had to traverse through the post-apocalyptic spiderland back alley, where they were met with a disorienting array of costumes, projections, music and, of course, Collective Arts beverages.
Twin Rains’ halloween getups belied their sonic cohesion: vocalist Christine Stoesser donned a Little Red Riding Hood-style cloak atop a catsuit, drummer Greg Smith dressed like a vampire, and guitarist Jay Merrow wore no costume at all, and yet all three were undeniably synchronized throughout their performance. The aesthetic may have been spooky, but Twin Rains’ music was positively dreamy, especially on swaying ballad “Believe It All” — and for those looking for that sense of Halloween haunt, perhaps the whinnying guitar leads on the Cure-esque “Unreal City” will give you what you’re looking for.
