Jvck James harnessed the disappointment of a false start in his career to help power him to new heights. With a pillowy-soft vocal and stunning songwriting gifts, the East Londoner bounced back, leaning into the truth of his artistry. Once an outcast for his childhood fascination with gospel music, today his impassioned R&B—imbued with echoed phrases, soaring vocal flourishes, and messages of hope—is in greater step with the genre’s redeeming power. With his new EP, 'ON THE ROCKS,' James balances a sanctimonious and soulful side against another that veers towards freewheeling experiment for a rich four-track blend of effortlessly fluid R&B.
