Sisters Liv and Anita Cazzola lead The Lifers, an art folk-rock collective, hailing from Guelph. On this three-song set, recorded on beautiful Manitoulin Island, Liv and Anita are joined by bandmates Sam Boer and Braden Phelan. Their songs are musically complex and they leave you contemplating. The second song in this Blue Skies set is "Tip", about the small choices we all make that are deciding the Global Climate Emergency. Ethereal synths and samples swirling amongst harp-inspired ukulele, haunting banjo, trembling cello, tidal percussion and foreboding electric guitar - a musical ecosystem that runs to the brink of collapse. The first song is a tribute to a friend, Andrea, juxtaposing tenderness and explosive energy, sometimes within a single breath. And the third song is a meditation about their two grandmothers. This is the Lifers territory, exploring notions of home, family and community, highlighting the beauty, vulnerability and power of nature, Their second latest album, 2018's “Honey Suite,” employs conventional instruments in unconventional ways. They describe it as "a sonic confrontation of the fragility of ourselves and our world". Folk music has never sounded so immediate. https://thelifersmusic.com/music https://www.facebook.com/thelifersmusiccanada/ https://thelifersss.bandcamp.com/ https://open.spotify.com/artist/0ZJltxhVvdZ7y78rQkPqep ABOUT BLUE SKIES Blue Skies Music and Cultural Festival has been a happening, in the woods, for 48 years, on a beautiful natural amphitheatre in the Lanark Highlands. During COVID times the festival has not been on site but online. Why? The Blue Skies community of volunteers decided to support musicians, for whom live concerts have been closed.
