The song ‘A Christmas Alleluia’ is a worship song - celebrating in an epic anthemic way the birth of Jesus. For our film, we have Sarah as narrator - singing the words to the camera with passion as she walks. She’s on a journey and she is worshipping as she goes!
The Christmas nativity has a draw for us because of the story that it tells of the humble beginnings of Jesus on earth. The wise men, shepherds and angels were all drawn to this mysterious power and amazingly felt inclined to worship a baby in a manger.
Children are central to the theme of Christmas for so many reasons. Other than the fact that they are at the start of their lives and want to uncover the beauties of the world and their destiny within it, their very innocent discoveries of everything that life has to offer still very much resonates with us adults. We are forever uncovering what our destiny is. Salvation and purpose are tied up with our belief in everything that Jesus personifies, so here we want to embody destiny and the sheer attractiveness that Jesus has in this contemporary telling of the famous nativity scene. Jesus is hope and destiny for all - and at the start of His life, even as a defenceless baby, there were people there who recognised the gravity of the moment.
With Sarah as ‘the angel’ - she merely carries the song as the narrator to the tale. She never needs to be an angel ‘personified’ but her song acts as the guide to those ‘on the ground’ who have an urge that they perhaps don’t really understand at first.
This urge…. This destiny is represented by an unlit candle. It’s a destiny… a calling. Each child discovers theirs when they weren’t expecting it. It’s fascinating to them and they know it’s for them. The also know that they need to stop what they’re doing.... a small nod to personal sacrifice... and then journey with their candles to an unknown destination…. They know that something is missing and that their future is uncertain - but journey they must. Their destiny has been uncovered.... but there is no flame.
As the children journey they meet up and they appear to have developed a united resolve - they must reach their destination together. The stable.
When they see it in the distance, they are initially a little scared… they know that this is power…. That it perhaps comes with a cost, a risk… But with determination they proceed with pace and dignity to the stable.
It is ultimately the saviour.... Jesus who completes the journey with the flame for our protagonists’ destiny. Out of sacrifice, determination, love and unity - the responses made by each of our children, the candles light supernaturally.... other candles around the stable that also light up at the end of our film represent all of us. Is one of these your candles? - Have you offered your own life to receive your flame of destiny?
