Vocalist Paul Marinaro and guitarist Mike Allemana perform a tribute to pianist/vocalist Audrey Morris in honor of her 90th birthday.
Audrey passed away on April 1, 2018.
"Thinking of our beloved Audrey Morris on what would have been her 90th Birthday.
One of the first songs I remember hearing Audrey sing when I first came to Chicago was this rare Billie Holiday song, and it became my favorite request for her throughout the years. Several days before she passed away on April 1, this was one of the last songs that Audrey and I talked about and sang together.
Though for me this song will always belong to Audrey, Mike Allemana and I performed it live in tribute to her at the Jazz Showcase on Septmeber 28, 2018.
Audrey and I clicked instantly when we met and immediately became pals, Audrey often musing about the fact that we probably knew each other in another lifetime. She was incredibly supportive of me, as a performer and as a pal. She was a beautiful friend and we understood one another completely. Audrey always reveled in the time that we were able to spend together, whether it was a brief phone conversation on the way home from a gig, or a late night gathering spent listening to great music. I am forever blessed for having known her and I will continue to miss my buddy.
