I found out just this morning that #NaomiScott has officially been announced to play Princess Jasmine in #Disney upcoming live action #Aladdin2019 I was curious to see how Naomi Scott would look as the beloved princess so of course I did a photoshop manipulation, designing her purple costume!
If you didn't already know, I have already designed both Princess Jasmine's teal/blue and red outfits, featuring Odeya Rush and Little Mix's Jade Thirlwall respectively.

For this purple outfit, I wanted it to flow more and have a little more movement in comparison to the other outfits I designed. However, I still wanted to include ornate details and intricacy within the dress as to showcase Princess Jasmine's wealth as the daughter of the Sultan. The light lavender/lilac colour of the dress is true to the original colour of her outfit in the cartoon, as well as the blue-green-teal gem that she wears on her head. The plain silk dress beneath the ornate skirt and hijab is reminiscent of the shape of Jasmine's purple dress from the cartoon.
My mum says this design is more Arabian/Middle Eastern, unlike the blue outfit I designed, which she thinks has more Indian/Pakistan influences. As for Jasmine's makeup, I would like to see it kept young and minimal. I wouldn't mind seeing a bit of kohl eyeliner and a little colour on the lips, but I would NOT want to see her face caked with "Arab-inspired" makeup with horrible thick winged eyeliner and tonnes of glitter and colours on the eyes. Jasmine is a beautiful princess naturally and should encourage young girls to be comfortable with how they look without makeup. By having Jasmine caked in makeup, this might give the wrong impression that women of different ethnicities are not beautiful without makeup.
So Naomi Scott will be Princess Jasmine... but who knows, maybe she'll be outstanding in the role. Newcomer Mena Massoud will play the titular character Aladdin, and Will Smith has been announced to play the genie. I'm sure they would have chosen wisely for Aladdin. As for the genie, I'm just curious about how he will look. I've always imagined the genie as a smoke/hologram/disappearing Cheshire cat type thing. I wonder if they will use Will Smith in person or his voice for a CGI character.
