As she previously revealed, the song is about longtime love Liam Hemsworth and the lyrics truly back up that statement. "Malibu" traces Miley and Liam's roller coaster of a relationship, from when they first got together to their breakup and reunion. The song pays tribute to the couple's connection to Malibu the place — for starters, it's where they live and where Liam surfs.
