The set of three Gymnopรฉdies, all in 3/4 time, was completed in 1888 by French composer Erik Satie. Supremely calm and melancholic, these works were an important precursor to ambient music as we know it today. Satie instructs the performer to play this first of the set โpainfullyโ (douloureaux).
