I Can't Resist with Jean Veloz
I said it's magic what happens and then I said: “Just listen. Listen!”
And then react and let it just fill your being, soul whatever
and oh - magical things can happen.
My name is Jean Veloz, I go by but when I was performing and dancing
and everything, it was Jean or Jeannie Phelps Veloz.
I'm 92.
My Mother was I think 94 when she passed away and we had her out dancing
like a night or two before she made the transition. Little mother she is
the one that got me started in dancing, when I was just a little kid.
I had ballet and tap as a child and then got into jitter bug type of things.
You know I have two brothers and both love to dance.
That's my little brother and I did a lot of my contest dancing with (him) Ray.
This is another thing that is unreal: Frank Veloz or the famous dance team
of Veloz and Yolanda needed a new partner. His wife and dance partner
did not want to do it anymore. So he found me, I became his partner,
I got into exhibition ballroom dancing, I mean how lucky is that!
It was never a question in my mind that's to what I wanted to do,
what direction I was going to go in. It was alway dancing or performing.
So many other people don't know what they want to do with their lives.
I knew from a very early age, I can't pin point it but it was very young.
I can be going to a dance and be outside and hear the music
as I'm coming into the room and that music, I even get a chill
down my back right now, because I can remember it so well
because I always get it anyway, it just makes you feel so good, so happy.
You might come there saying oh god I'm kinda tired I don't know wether
I really wanna do this or not but oh yes you get in there
and it's heaven and it's been that way. I have been so lucky.
It means that you let it all hang out when you just.. you do things that
you might not do if you were just out there dancing. Just let go.
Where ever I go when I dance I get to stand and look at the see of faces
all smiling, happy. Oh my god!
The word, can't, you erase that from your mind, don't use that.
You can! You CAN do it, you CAN DO it!
When it comes to regrets, I can't, I no, I can't think of any, can't think of any.
What regrets? was it something I wanted to do or should have done?
No I don't know really. I think I DID everything I wanted to do!
