The Aegis band consists of five girls and a guy whom the girls tease has already become one of the girls. Of course, they’re just kidding. It’s nothing more than a loving joke brought about by togetherness and a strong bond of friendship of more than 10 years and counting.
It’s hard to believe a musical group could last this long, traveling on foreign shores, sharing rooms, food, stories and lives altogether. But that’s the truth. Aegis is like family, much more than what a college fraternity or sorority can offer. It’s more than just an extension of their families strewn in different parts of the country. Aegis members represent the three major islands of the Philippines.
Juliet and Mercy Sunot, the lead vocalists, come all the way from Cagayan de Oro. The bassist Rowena “Weng” Pinpin is from Pampanga. Keyboardist Stella is from Misamis Occidental while drummer Vilma Goloviogo’s a Manileña. Only boy in the group, Rey Abenoja hails from Leyte.
To the members, having joined Aegis is the best thing that ever happened to them. Sure, they had been singing with other groups before, but it was only when they got together as Aegis that they felt this strong unseen link that has been seeing them through all these years.
