Gain Staging: Setting Monitor Levels, Part 1

 

Once you’ve established your mix levels to avoid clipping and to make sure you have enough dynamic headroom, the next step is to set up your listening environment. Before looking at the practicalities of this, I thought I’d share an insight into my home studio by showing what I use and beginning to look at how I’ve got things set up. I also look at some of the issues raised by working in a small room, some of which I’ll tackle in a couple of weeks.
