In the era of Bazball and fast paced Test cricket you might think that the match is boring. But this is pure Test cricket. Batters grinding the bowlers down and wearing them out while the bowlers trying to prize a wicket. The pitch has some spice too! India continue their dominance as the West Indies continue to lose control of this game. After the excitement of yesterday, the game descended into a bit of a lull this morning as the Indian batters took a very measured approach. They were resolute in their defence and showed no urgency as they both made it through to their respective fifties. The West Indies bowlers looked out of their depth and perhaps Kraigg Brathwaite's decision to not bowl his lead pacers a bit more in that session was a bit questionable. The spinners did however beat the bat on numerous occasions with the ball turning square and bouncing raggedly but the Indian openers remained unfazed. Ravi Ashwin and Jadeja will be licking their lips having seen how much the pitch has offered to the spinners this early in the game. Ravichandran Ashwin: Thought it was a pretty good performance. There was a bit of moisture on the pitch earlier but it started to spin later. Saw on the TV as well that it turned more later. Had to adapt early. It was a bit dry, have to get the pace right to trouble the batsmen. International cricket is all about adapting to different conditions. With so many leagues around, we can get carried away with a few performances in these leagues but international cricket is different. Jaiswal is a vibrant cricketer, extremely talented. I hope he goes on to do great things in his career. I think we're going to see some special performances from him. A session that's been thoroughly dominated by India. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the Windies had a solid first half-hour and weathered the new ball off. India's pacers had limited success early as both Chanderpaul and Brathwaite looked resolute at the crease. The first breakthrough came with Ashwin being introduced early. He got one to skid on and castled Chanderpaul in the 13th over. Next, Brathwaite simply gifted his wicket away by attempting an ugly slog across the line and holing out to his counterpart at cover. Reifer was the next to go as Thakur managed to nick him off. After that, it looked like the Windies had entered a period of stability as Blackwood and the debutant, Athanaze, batted quite solidly. Just when it looked like they'd get through to lunch, Blackwood threw his wicket away too trying to take the bowler on. The mood in the Windies camp won't be upbeat as they find themselves 4 down with not too many on the board. India might already by thinking about having a bat later today evening judging how things transpired in this 1st session. Twelve years after India last played a Test match in Dominica, they return for a series-opener where the focus will largely be on the new personnel that will be driving their World Test Championship campaign. Having finished as the runners-up twice in the competition, there have been a few bold calls made by the selectors in picking the squad. On the eve of the Test, skipper Rohit Sharma confirmed that they'd have a debutant opener and new No. 3 coming in. With Yashasvi Jaiswal set to open, given India's requirement of a left-hander, and the move to have Gill in the middler-order gives the batting order a new look. Additionally, the performances of this duo in those slots will be imperative for India to help solve a batting problem that has persisted for a while. The line-up has been particularly poor against pace over the last three years, as the records suggest, with the dwindling form of the likes of Virat Kohli looming large as they attempt to fix a faltering middle-order.
