There vd to was a rumour that he ordered his army to open fire upon the citizens. 7000 men and women gathered in front of the town hall and decided to form a people's militia. Agitated crowd broke into a number of government building in search of arms. A group of several hundred people stormed the fortress prison, the Bastille, where they hoped to find hoarded ammunition. The crowd destroyed the Bastille, the commander of the Bastille was killed and the prisoners released. Social causes of French revolution: - In the late eighteenth century, social circumstances in France were severely unfair and exploitative. The first two estates, the clergy and the nobles were the most privileged sections in French society. They were not required to pay any state taxes. - Weak economic policies, poor leadership, and exploitative political and social systems all contributed to the French revolution. The authoritarian monarchy, bankruptcy, and wasteful royal expenditures were among the political causes of the French revolution. - The commoners were acutely aware of the problems and were becoming less and less prepared to support the bourgeoisie's exclusion from political power and honourable position. Economical cause of french revolution-Although France's economy grew dramatically in the 18th century, largely as a result of trade, problems emerged as the end of the century approached. This economic growth was not really reflected in French society, in fact, the cost of living had increased by about 62% in the forty years before the revolution, while individual income did not keep pace. The population of France had grown from approximately nineteen million people in 1700 to approximately twenty-six million by the eve of the revolution, and most of this growth was in rural areas where peasant farmers were struggling to get by. Typically, a French farming family used about 80% of what they grew, which left only a small portion to be sold so that they could pay their taxes, fees and rents. If anything diminished the harvest, they would begin to starve. The Political Causes of the French Revolution are faulty administration, the autocracy of the king, the power of the court, the excessive spending of the royals, bankruptcy, the burden of taxes, etc. A period of political and social change in France resulted in the overthrow of the monarchy and the establishment of a republic known as the French Revolution.
