A pair of barn owls had three fledglings, but their mother died while attempting to lay a second clutch of eggs. The fledglings resorted to cannibalism and consumed their own mother. The male owl eventually found a new female partner who laid seven eggs, resulting in the hatching of seven nestlings. However, one of the original fledglings returned and started stealing food from its half-siblings. When the new female owl returned, she attacked the returning fledgling and kicked it out of the nest.
