Li’s comment was made during a speech on June 4, 2023, at the Shangri-La Dialogue, a meeting of the region’s defence officials, taking place in Singapore. It came a day after a Chinese warship nearly collided with a US destroyer in the Taiwan Strait during a joint US and Canadian military exercise.
