Malate, City of Manila June 25, 2023 PART I: The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) leads the nation in celebrating the Day of the Filipino Seafarer (DotFS) at the New Coast Hotel in Malate, City of Manila on June 25, 2023. The DotFS is an annual celebration designated by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) that aims to recognize the significant contributions of seafarers from all over the world to international seaborne trade, the world economy and civil society. In the Philippines, it is commemorated every 25th of June pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 183 series of 2011. This year, DotFS recognizes the role of seafarers in protecting the marine environment anchored in the World Maritime theme, ‘MARPOL at 50 - Our Commitment Goes On (#OceansWorthProtecting).’ It seeks to reflect the long history of protecting the environment from the impact of shipping via robust regulatory framework and emphasizes commitments to this important work. MARINA spearheads various activities to commemorate the celebration, as well as to pay tribute to Filipino seafarers for their hard work, sacrifices, dedication, and contributions to domestic and international trade and economy.
