New power plant to be built on Jurong Island

Construction has begun on a new fast-start power plant on Jurong Island. It is part of the Energy Market Authority's efforts to maintain a secure supply of electricity in Singapore. The power plant broke ground on May 19, with Manpower Minister and Second Trade and Industry Minister Tan See Leng in attendance. It will be run by EMA subsidiary Meranti Power, with partners from Jurong Engineering Limited and Mitsubishi Power Asia Pacific helping in the plant's development.
