Hou Yu-ih the clear favorite on eve of KMT’s big announcement

The KMT is expected to name its presidential candidate at its Central Standing Committee on Wednesday. Earlier this week, party chairman Eric Chu met with the two contenders, tech tycoon Terry Gou and New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih. Sources say that Hou is the clear favorite, with the strongest support from the party’s leaders, its lawmakers and local government heads. Gou’s campaign team has canceled four events scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday. Hou confirms that he will attend Wednesday’s committee meeting, although he says it’s to support legislative candidates from his city.
