Convoy carrying ASEAN diplomats attacked in Myanmar, no injuries reported

Written By CNA on Monday, May 08, 2023 | 09:17 AM

Indonesia has condemned an attack on a diplomatic convoy in Myanmar's southern Shan State. Officials from Indonesia, Singapore and ASEAN's humanitarian aid centre were aboard vehicles that came under fire in Taunggyi. No injuries were reported. It remains unclear who was behind the attack. The convoy was apparently on its way to visit a refugee camp. The ethnic armed group in the area helped to negotiate the safe passage of the convoy. This incident comes just ahead of the ASEAN Summit in Indonesia this week.
