The Toyota Innova HyCross strong hybrid variants have been in high demand since their launch, resulting in waiting periods of more than 2.5 years in certain locations. To minimize inconvenience for customers, Toyota has temporarily suspended bookings for the top-end grades, including the Innova HyCross ZX and ZX (O) hybrid variants, starting from April 8, 2023. However, bookings for other grades of Innova Hycross will continue, both for gasoline and hybrid variants. Toyota deeply regrets this situation and is working to resume bookings for the affected variants as soon as possible.
The waiting period for the HyCross VX variant is between 8 to 12 months, while for the HyRyder hybrid variants, it exceeds one year in some cities. Currently, there are no direct rivals to the strong hybrid powertrain of the HyRyder and HyCross, and there is no concrete evidence that other Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) are planning to introduce similar strong hybrid variants in the future. Instead, most OEMs are focusing on plug-in hybrids and Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). However, Toyota-Maruti's approach seems to be working well, as strong hybrids offer advantages such as being self-charging, without the constraints of recharging time and limited range, and being cheaper than EVs. As a result, Toyota-Maruti's hybrid cars have a favorable position, at least for the next few years.
