MI were off to a poor start after Faf du Plessis won the toss on RCB's home ground and decided to bowl first. Mohammed Siraj Reece Topley and Akash Deep proved the decision to be correct restricting the scoring and getting the top 3 out inside the powerplay. Ishan Kishan was the first to depart off the bowling of Siraj who bowled 3 powerplay overs conceding just 5 runs. Cameron Green batted at number 3 and was bowled by Reece Topley with skipper Rohit Sharma surviving 10 balls to score just a single and was sent by the Bengal fast bowler Akash Deep. Suryakumar Yadav finally scored a run off his bat and added 28 runs with Tilak Varma for the fourth wicket but was dismissed by Michael Bracewell when spinners came into the fray. Bracewell operated with the experienced Karn Sharma in the middle overs and kept the scoring down. Glenn Maxwell was later introduced in the 12th over but was taken to the cleaners by Varma as he and debutant Nehal Wadhera got 16 runs off it breaking the shackles for MI. MI fielded just 3 overseas players and offered T20 debuts for Wadhera and Madhya Pradesh's fast bowler Arshad Khan. Wadhera added 50 runs with Varma for the fifth wicket in a 21 run cameo coming off just 13 deliveries hitting a four and 2 consecutive towering sixes to Karn Sharma but the Railways leg spinner got the better of him trapping the youngster in his web on the very next ball. Tim David and Hrithik Shokeen didn't last long on the pitch and were sent back in quick succession by Karn and Harshal Patel the latter being the only RCB bowler in the IPL history to get the purple cap getting his first wicket of the season. Varma kept playing his strokes and disturbed the line and length of a bowler like Siraj who conceded 16 runs in his final over that included 5 wides in it. Arshad Khan another T20 debutant joined Varma and hit 15 runs in 9 deliveries adding unbeaten 48 runs for the 8th wicket to take Mumbai to a score they would have taken with eyes closed before the toss. In this innings Tilak Varma is batting with a control percentage of 81.2 percent when no other batters have a control percentage of above 70. Ishan Kishan in this match: vs Reece Topley: 9 runs of 6 balls at SR of 150 (100% control) vs Mohammed Siraj: 1 run of 7 balls at SR of 14.3 (42.9% control) In IPL Since 2013 Mumbai Indians have lost all their opening games. Impact Players for Mumbai - Jason Behrendorff Vishnu Vinod Ramandeep Singh Shams Mulani and Sandeep Warrier. Players with 200 T20 matches as captain: 307 - MS Dhoni 208 - Daren Sammy 200* - Rohit Sharma Rohit's win percentage of 62.31 is the best among the 10 captains to have led in 150-plus T20 matches. Tilak Varma (Mumbai Indians): "My plan was to assess the wicket. How it was going. At the start the wicket was holding. Initially I thought to take time and pace the innings and see what total we get. I always back my shots. The same thing I was backing my shots asking my partner what could be a good wicket and was going with the flow. I would suggest the spinners were good. It was holding a bit. When you were coming down the track it was getting a bit difficult to play. The backward point and extra cover were a bit finer and I knew that he [Mohammed Siraj] was going for the wide Yorker. I was backing myself to hit those ones." Audio Content Disclaimer For This Content This is self-created content and not copied content.
