December 21st 1988 – I spent the evening for the first time (but not the last) in the newly opened Nighthawks diner. Further down the bar, Shay Healy chatted with a young man with wild hair and a nervous, preoccupied air. Then he invited him to sing. The young man agreed and when he opened his mouth, I heard a sound like nothing I’d ever experienced before. This Is Christy Dignam.
