Balad' ay nangangahulugang 'Ang Bayan' at ang Al Balad sa Jeddah ay dating sentro ng Jeddah salamat sa malapit nito sa Jeddah Port. Ang makasaysayang bahagi ng Jeddah ay itinatag noong ika-7 siglo. Dati itong lugar na tinitirhan ng Saudi ngunit habang ang lungsod ng Jeddah, Saudi Arabia ay yumaman, salamat sa oil boom noong 1970s at 1980's.
