Camping is a new(er) concept for us and we are learning as we go, while also exploring new states along the way. But one thing we have figured out, is some of the best camping spots we have stumbled upon are FREE and first come/first serve. Which totally would be the opposite of our initial assumption. Searching out these hidden gem campsites hasn't always been a slam dunk but we sure did hit the jackpot at each location we found in the Sedona/Flagstaff area. The first hike featured in this video is called West Fork Trail. West Fork is located a little farther out of the heart of Sedona, nearby Slide Rock State Park in Oak Creek Canyon. This location serves as a nice break from the constant congestion within Sedona. The hike itself totaled upwards of 8 miles roundtrip with the option of wading through water at the end to extend the hike if you are equipped for the chilly water and slippery rocks - which we were not. The second hike is called Teacup and Sugarloaf Trails. These were actually our second choice after finding out how unaccessible the Seven Sacred Pools trailhead is. With a 22 foot van, you are forced to take the shuttle bus from a different location but the shuttle doesn't allow dogs even though the trail does - how does that make sense!? Anyways, Teacup and Sugarloaf also has a small parking lot but we were able to squeeze and boy, we were satisfied with this runner-up option. The rock formations were massive and lots of shade for Zeker. We completed about 3 miles roundtrip but this is another hike that has options to continue farther if desired. Rachel and I met a little over two years ago and within a year of knowing each other, we both saw an opportunity for something more, NOTLIVINGFORTHEWEEKEND. We decided to risk it all and sell a house, leave a job of 10 years, and sell 80% of our personal belongings all for the chance of being happy and doing what we love. We have been on the road now for 9 weeks with our dog Zeke and our only regret is that we didn't do this sooner.
