160 years ago today, on April 14 1862, Confederate President Jefferson Davis summoned a council of war at his Executive Mansion in Richmond, Virginia. Present were the Confederacy's top generals and Davis's military adviser, Robert E. Lee. After vigorous debate, Davis decided to order General Joseph E. Johnston to hold the Warwick Line defenses near Yorktown, rather than authorize a feint by Stonewall Jackson towards Washington, D.C.
