Eyelid Stye- expression and treatment

 

A hordeolum or stye, is an infected, clogged gland in the upper or lower lid. A stye can be internal or external, which may affect the treatment options given by your eye doctor. Most patients experience lid tenderness, swelling, or discharge when a stye forms. Early diagnosis and treatment are important. If you are continuously getting styes, then you may have Meibomian Gland disease, which is a condition that involves chronic clogged oil glands in the eyelid. Your eye doctor can perform an image called meibography that will assess the structure of your oil glands. If there is damage, there are treatments to unclog the oil glands.
