Quality of petrol depends on the density. Density at a given temperature for petrol/diesel should be within the range that is specified by oil companies supplying petrol/diesel to petrol bunks. Any change/ variation in the density would mean there is some alteration in petrol/diesel.

As per Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) specification IS 2796 :, the density of the petrol should be within the range of 720–775 kg/m3 and the density of the diesel should be within the range of 820–860 kg/m3.
