The Rakiura Track is one of the ten Great Walks of New Zealand, and I'm currently on a mission to complete all of them! This track, located on the third largest and southernmost of New Zealand's three main islands, is an adventure through a pristine and prehistoric past, but is still a fantastic track for beginner multi-day and long distance hikers.
Join me as I hike the Rakiura Track Great Walk in an anticlockwise direction over 3 days from Lee Bay on the northern coastline of Stewart Island through to the Fern Gully Road end. In this episode I journey from Bluff to Oban, then hike the short distance to the Lee Bay trailhead before making my way to Port William Hut for the night. The next morning I wake early and make my way through the muddy centre of the island towards North Arm Hut.
