@VeterinerHekimAhmetMert The third in our video series on domestic cattle breeds is Eastern Anatolian Red They are grown in high altitude areas in the Eastern Anatolia Region of our country. They are resistant to harsh winter conditions. They are resistant to unsuitable barn conditions, insufficient care and feeding, epidemic and parasitic diseases. They continue to live and yield under these conditions. They are taken to pastures and plateaus since May. They usually spend 6 months of the year in pasture. They make good use of poor quality feed. The color in Eastern Anatolian Red varies from yellow-red to dark chestnut. Light-colored spots ranging from white to white can be seen on different parts of the body, usually on the breast, under the abdomen, tail, tail tip and tip of the nose. The front of the body, parts of the head, neck, chest and legs are darker in bulls. Horns are short and pointed forward. The most striking feature of Eastern Anatolian Red is the narrow chest area. There is an increase from the waist to the rump and a descend from the rump to the tail. Usually rump is narrow, sharp, pointed and low. The back of the body is higher than the front. Adult live weight is 300-350 kg for females and 400 kg for males. It is not suitable for machine milking. The lactation period is 205 days and the lactation milk yield is around 900-1000 kg and the milk fat is around 3.5%. The Eastern Anatolian Red is the most important source of beef in our country, when they are fattened at an early age, they give quality meat. The meat of the animals fed in this way is crispy and tasty. During the fattening period, they provide a daily increase of 700-800 grams of live weight. Meat yield is around 53%.
