The dogman originally started out as a joke by a Traverse City DJ named Steve Cook. He created a song called ‘The Legend’ on April 1st, 1987. The song was about detailed accounts people gave about seeing a large dog that walked like a person and screamed an unearthly howl every night. In fact, the first recorded sighting, if you’re not including tribal folklore about the same monster, had started in the same spot we were camping in that night.
