Join me as I find the most beautiful hidden lake while riding my fatbike in the Sam Houston National Forest. I'm riding a route known as the Sam Houston Restaurant Tour I found on Ride With GPS. It's a 53-mile route of rolling wooded hills that consists of mostly well-maintained gravel roads with some chip and seal mixed in and plenty of shade trees along the way. It could be done in a day EXCEPT for the two restaurants found along the route. They are great places to stop with friendly people and great food. You won't want to hurry at either of these places I assure you. Also studying Google Earth maps I found the most beautiful hidden lake. It's not on the route but it's only a few miles off the route and has to be one of my favorite places I've camped in Texas. It's far off the beaten path with no signage and a locked forest service gate at the main road entrance. It is on national forest land and is open to hikers, horses, and bicycles. I had the whole lake to myself and the only activity back there was the fish jumping all afternoon. I really wish I had taken a micro-light spinning rod & reel with me. If you love bikepacking, touring, or gravel riding you will enjoy this route. Ride With GPS is an invaluable resource to adventure cycling and the app can be added to your phone, home PC, or the route downloaded to your Garmin.
Also, we will take a quick look at photos of Smell N Roses bicycle and his bikepacking set-up. If you would like to have your bicycle pics shown please send them to "
