Welcome to Backyard Smoke, I'm your host James Hogan. Today I will be showing you how I season my new charcoal grill in just 7 easy steps. In this video we will be using my Weber Master-touch but the same technique can be used on any charcoal grill.
The process is very simple and takes just a few hours. But don't worry your part will only take about 10min total.
What you will need.
Some type of oil I prefer extra virgin olive Oil or grape seed
Paper towel
Cheap charcoal
1 chunk of you favorite wood
Steps
Step 1 Light up your charcoal in a chimney to get whte hot coals.
Step 2 Wet the towel with a bit of oil.
Step 3 Rub on all interior surfaces of the grill and the grates.
Step 4 Dump in your hot coals and wood chunk in.
Step 5 Place your grate and any other items that came with the grill inside.
Step 6 Adjust your grates for a temp of 350-400 degrees and let hold for at least 2hrs.
Step 7 Grab a beer and let the heat and smoke do the rest.
Full Disclaimer Weber states that their grills do not need to be seasoned.
Weber’s Statement: https://www.weber.com/US/en/blog/burning-questions/how-to-season-your-new-grates/weber-30505.html#:~:text=Our%20grates%20do%20not%20require,you%20are%20good%20to%20go.
The reason that I decided to season my grill is due to it leaving a factory and being touched by many other individuals and machines.
Seasoning the grill can also get a smoke flavor set in your grill so on that first cook you wont have some off taste on your first cook.
