Newhaven Habour Station 23/2/20

This is one of two stations in Newhaven and the quieter one of the two as the name suggests the station use to serve a busy habour however this is no more with no passenger boat services departing from here. The station is a typical two platform station with a waiting shelter on one side and covered platform on the other. The covered platform gives the impression of a station which had more of a status in years gone by however now the station isn't staffed whatsoever. To the south of the station there once was a level crossing which closed in 2019. There was also a signal box which controlled a short spur of track to the once Newhaven Marine Station, the station closed unofficially many years ago however once a day a train used this spur to keep up driver knowledge and to effectively keep the station open, as it never officially closed and only now has a notice been erected to say the Newhaven Marine station will be closed shortly, the station in which you couldn't actually get onto due to there being a fence in the way and not much platform left. One of the quirks of the network for sure. However by pure chance on the day we went the train we were on actually caught fire under the carriage and the train was put into the old Newhaven Marine station so you can see where the trains went once a day for 30 plus years to keep a unofficially closed station unofficially open.
