Columbus Crew dominated in the group stage of the MLS is Back Tournament, but Caleb Porter’s side is out after the round of 16, falling to Minnesota United in a 5-3 penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regulation. Robin Lod put Minnesota ahead early in the match from a set piece, and Columbus was only able to pull level when USMNT striker Gyasi Zardes scored on a rebound after his penalty kick was saved by Tyler Miller. Miller, formerly LAFC’s No. 1 goalkeeper, stopped a shootout attempt from Christopher Cadden, which proved decisive as all five Loons penalty takers beat Andrew Tarbell. Adrian Heath’s side will now face Matias Almyeda’s San Jose Earthquakes, with the winner advancing to play either LAFC or Orlando City for a spot in the final of the Major League Soccer tournament. #ESPNFC #MLS
