A British working class action noir about a group of lorry drivers competing against high demands and each other to deliver gravel at break neck speeds along small country lanes. Directed by American Cy Endfield its stars Stanley Baker (the pair would work again on Zulu) Herbert Lom, William Hartnell, Peggy Cummins, Sid James and an early role for Sean Connery. Patrick Mcgoohan stands out as the villan 'red'. The editing is superb is this quick paced thriller.
