Hurricane Hugo was the strongest and most destructive storm of the 1989 Atlantic Hurricane Season, killing over 100, and affecting nearly 100,000 buildings amounting to a price tag of $10 billion. Hugo made a historic Category 4 landfall in South Carolina, after peaking as a Category 5 east of the Lesser Antilles in a classic Cape-Verde type hurricane track.
