Coronavirus outbreak: B.C. reports COVID-19 outbreak at Vancouver poultry processing plant | FULL

 

British Columbia's provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and health minister Adrian Dix provided an update on the latest COVID-19 cases in the province and discussed the government's ongoing response to the pandemic on Tuesday. Henry reported an outbreak at a Vancouver poultry processing plant, where 28 employees tested positive for COVID-19. Health officials began widespread testing at United Poultry in East Vancouver after a worker was diagnosed on Sunday. Henry said that employees of the processing and packing facility have been told to self-isolate, and the facility has been closed. She stated there was no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread from consuming chicken or handling packaging, but that it is always important to wash your hands when dealing with raw meat. Henry also confirmed 25 new cases of COVID-19, for a total of 1,724 cases in B.C. since the outbreak began. One new death was reported, bringing the total of virus-related deaths in the province to 87.
