In this episode of Singapore Hawker Food series, we share with you our visit to The legendary Golden Mile Food Centre and explore the halal hawker food options here.
For the Singapore Hawker Food series, we will be visiting various Singapore Hawker Centres to discover the different Singapore halal food being sold at these hawker centres.
Golden Mile Food Centre is a hawker centre located in Beach Road and has been around for a long time. It is nestled among the HDB Houses and the many offices in the estate and caters to the lunch time office crowd and ardent visitors.
There is quite a variety of Halal Food options in the food centre and the variety of hawker food sold here is enough to meet the demand of the visitors.
We decided to have a burger from Ashes Burnnit, Nasi Campur from Nenek Leng and of course, the most popular halal hawker food in Golden Mile Food Centre, Bone Steak or Tulang Merah from Deen Tiga Rasa.

What is a hawker?
A hawker in the Singapore context is someone who sells food. In the old days, this was from a roadside stall or a pushcart. These days, hawkers can be found in coffee shops, Singapore hawker centres, and Singapore food courts (air-conditioned hawker centres). Majority of the Singapore Hawkers usually specialise in a particular cuisine, sometimes in just one dish.
You can find hawker centres and food courts everywhere, including downtown whereas coffee shops tend to be located in the suburbs.
