So as you all know, I sort of like Shelle like I do any other couple on DAYS really… so I decide to create a nice tribute for this couple I’ve loved since I was 7 years-old, celebrating the 20 years of their relationship when they bumped into each at the University Hospital as SORAS’d 15 years olds.
I chose songs that best fit each version. For Classic Shelle I chose Brian McKnight’s 1999 hit ‘Back at One’. It’s just as magical and beautiful as Classic Shelle was. They were like lightning in a bottle, so perfect magical and cute. And as much as I adore the other versions in their own right. Classic Shelle is unbeatable, untouchable and irreplaceable.
Then there is Modern Shelle; my tragic, star-crossed, overly dramatic Shakespearean Shelle. They’re my Tristan and Isodole, Jack and Rose, and Jamie and Landon. And what better songs to encapsulate their relationship than Nickelback’s Far Away and Daniel Bedingfield’s overly sappy and melodramatic ‘If You’re Not the One,’ to which they danced to outside Shawn and Mimi’s wedding reception. This song seems to have been made for them as it perfectly tells us the story of their tumultuous relationship.
Last but not least we have Nu Shelle, our more grounded and realistic Shelle. Unlike the other two version who possessed this fairy-tale and shakespearan tragedy soulmate like aura, Nu Shelle isn’t like that. Their love feels more earned, more fought, more what you see every day, what couples struggle to in order to keep a relationship going, struggling with growth, change, careers. They’re a little bit more human but even throughout all the drama and they are always waiting for each other and they’ll never stop.
