“Wetting the squeegee” is a great way to get better screen prints – whether you’re printing with water based ink or plastisol ink. Cody from Matsui shows you a super simple trick that prevents the squeegee from dragging the screen when you print – and possibly mis-registering your prints! Visit Matsui online: http://matsui-color.com/ Here’s the trick: just apply a little bit of your ink to the BACK of the squeegee. This will stop your automatic screen printing press’ squeegee from tearing your screen mesh, too! Just like with plastisol ink, you need to check that your squeegees are sharp and that the durometer is appropriate for what you're trying to print. Another difference with water based ink that’s worth noting: with plastisol, you’ll typically set your press to flood, print, then index. With water based inks, you will set your press to flood, print, flood, then index. Why? Because you want to keep a thick flood of water based ink on your screen to prevent the ink from drying in your stencil.
