It is a daily service. It operates as train number 12922 from Surat to Mumbai Central and as train number 12921 in the reverse direction. Flying Ranee presently has 2 AC Chair Car, 3 General second class, 1 First Class & 12 Double Decker non AC coaches. This train would earlier carry a pantry car but this has been removed and replaced with a Second Chair Car coach. Flying Ranee was first introduced in 1906 as a weekend special. It ran between 1906 and 1939 when it was discontinued due to World War Two. Since then, it had been discontinued and restarted several times. It finally resumed operations on 1 November 1950 and has been running ever since. On 18 December 1979, double-decker cars were added to the Flying Ranee's rake. Presently it is a daily service. It covers the distance of 263 kilometres in 4 hours 40 minutes as 12922 Flying Ranee (56.35 km/hr) and 4 hours 40 minutes as 12921 Flying Ranee (55.37 km/hr). Dual traction WCAM-1 locomotive usually hauls the train between Mumbai and Surat. Western Railways completed DC Electric Conversion to AC on 5 February 2012. It is now regularly hauled by a Vadodara based WAP-7 or WAP-5 or WAP-4E locomotive. 12922 Flying Ranee leaves Surat at 05:25 AM IST every day and reaches Mumbai Central at 10:10 AM IST the same day. 12921 Flying Ranee leaves Mumbai Central at 17:55 PM IST every day and reaches Surat at 22:35 PM IST the same day. It is under the administrative control of the Western Railway zone of the Indian Railways. Surat is A1 – category railway station of Western Railway Zone of Indian Railways. It is on the Ahmedabad–Vadodara–Mumbai rail route. The railway station was built in 1860. Going north, Utran Railway Station is the nearest railhead. Udhna Junction Railway Station is to the south of Surat. In early 2016, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation rated the facility the best large station in India based on cleanliness. Railway station of Surat is on the first floor from ground. The nearest international airport is Surat Airport. It serves as a major stop for both Local and Inter-City/Express trains with separate platforms for them. It is also a terminal for several long distance trains including the Mumbai Rajdhani Express. It is one of the five major Terminal stations in Mumbai while others being Mumbai CST, Mumbai LTT, Mumbai BDTS and Mumbai Dadar. Trains depart from the station connecting various destinations mostly across states in the northern, western and north-western parts of India. The station was renamed from Bombay Central to Mumbai Central in 1997, following the change of Bombay to Mumbai. In 2018, a resolution was passed to change the station code to MMCT, with implementation ongoing. The station is divided into two parts. The eastern half of the station serves long-distance trains operated by Western Railways while the western half serves commuter trains running on the Churchgate–Virar suburban section of Western Railways. RailTel, the telecom arm of the Indian Railways, on 22 January 2016 launched free public Wi-Fi service at Mumbai Central station in collaboration with Google. The concourse on the mainline side has an outlet of Rajdhani chain of restaurants serving authentic Indian food.
