HUBUD: Classical Backhand Variations

In this video, MKGD Head Instructor Kurt Cornwell and Beginner Programming Coach Colin Hunt demonstrate and offer a tutorial on one of the “Classical” styles of Hubud found in MKG Method Training worldwide. Known internally as the “Wedge-Trap-Backhand Cycle,” this series of technical and tactile techniques can be used as a stand-alone method of counter-striking, an independent Flow Drill, or as an element of Standard Higot Hubud-Lubud as both a variable and a lead-hand switch. It’s versatility combines with its natural tendency to greatly enhance coordination and competency in the Trapping Range, and the result is an engaging and challenging training method that can be tailored to increase the skills and match the needs of just about any martial artist. This method is a core component of the Sensitivity Training found within the MKG Method, as taught to us by Guro/Sifu/Coach Rick Faye, though other groups and celebrated Instructors, including Guro Inosanto, may teach similar skills and drills. This particular approach to training methods is mostly native to MKG Detroit, and all opinions are our own. Please train safely, have fun, and don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe.
