Assetto Corsa (2014) - Every PC F1 Game

Assetto Corsa by Kunos Simulazioni, 2014. This is actually the third time Kunos tackled Formula 1. The first was the Singtel Ultimate Race project for the Singapore F1 race; the second was Ferrari Virtual Academy for Ferrari themselves. Over the years, Assetto Corsa gradually added various Lotus and Ferrari F1 cars to their hardcore simulator. Here I'm concentrating on the most recent F1 car in the game, the 2017 Ferrari SF70H. This game is a pretty high-end simulator, even allowing you to tinker with usually off-limit technical areas, such as the MGU-H/MGU-K systems for energy deployment. Where I've included other cars, I've added all the other modern Ferrari F1 cars as computer-controlled competitors. This game is a bit hard on my computer, so the framerate isn't perfectly smooth, but it looks okay to watch! 1. Race Start (Monza): 0:00 The lap counter and red arrows can be switched off by tweaking .ini files, but I didn't bother here. The viewpoint in-car is very close-in, meaning the sense of speed is diminished, but it's actually more accurate to real-life. Grand Prix 4 had a similar in-car view. 2. Spray Effects (Silverstone): 0:40 There's no rain in Assetto Corsa, so I used the heavy cloud weather mode, which looks gloomy enough. The motion blur when the car passes, and use of depth-of-field makes this look pretty realistic. 3. Tunnel & View (Monaco): 0:55 Monaco isn't in the game, so I've used the fictional Scottish circuit they added. Obviously just a bit different-looking! 4. Wet Track (Spa-Francorchamps): 1:13 Again, there's no rain here. I'm using the medium-level fog effect (heavy fog makes it impossible to see far enough). This is the more recent version of Spa, without the bridge on the Kemmel Straight. 5. Pitstop (Interlagos): 1:33 Interlagos isn't in the game, so I used the Catalunya track in Spain. Pitstops seem strange, with no car fixing happening. But as the car damage only appears to be scratches (maybe due to licensing), perhaps it doesn't need fixing! It's a bit lacking, given the hardcore simulation approach of eveything else. 6. Huge Crash (Montreal): 1:45 I'm using the Red Bull Ring in Austria here, as Montreal isn't in the game. I've shown this crash twice, once from the camera following my car, the second from a car I hit. Damage is minimal here, just scratches, I'm not sure if that's an issue with the Ferrari license or just how they approached things though.
