Let's dye yarn using the heat from the sun! In this video, we will dye 100 g of Stroll Fingering Weight Yarn - 75% Superwash Merino/ 25% nylon http://shrsl.com/161a2 (KnitPicks Affiliate Link) with food coloring layered in a mason jar that we set outside in direct sunlight for the whole day. I added the ingredients as follows: 1 cup water 1T white vinegar 10 drops base blue Add part of the dry yarn 4 drops of yellow around the middle of the yarn. (at the sides of the jar) Add the rest of the yarn Slowly add more tap water until all of the yarn is covered. 4 drops of base black A little more water [8:09] Sealing up the jar and going outside into the sun (starting 930 AM) [9:34] Checking in after 1.5 hours in the sun. [10:38] ~3.5 hours in the sun [12:19] ~5.5 hours outside, moving the jar to a new sunny location [12:45] 630 PM (~ 9 hours outside) and the sun is gone from my yard. I moved the jar inside a bit before we opened it up to wash it.
