We never know what we might find when we dig deep into our temperature-controlled analog tape/DVD vault. Today’s selection is a timely one, albeit with a dated term for immigrants, from ABC News (U.S.A.) Nightline hosted in this video by Charles Gibson. Back in the 1980s, the U.S.A. was dealing with large-scale illegal immigration from “south of the border” consisting of mostly Mexicans, fleeing poor economic conditions to find any jobs they could to support their families. While a few had nefarious intentions, most just wanted a better life and dignity for themselves, and their loved ones. The problem remains the same, these days, but with even more urgency as people are fleeing some the worst human-created crises our species has ever seen. Failed governments of some South American nations unwilling or incapable of protecting their citizens from the ruling law of chaos, greed, and violence from drug cartels and gangs, along with unspeakable violence against 50% of the human race…women and girls…make the crisis even more keenly felt. We learn from this 1986 VHS video, which looks only at the Mexican immigration issues, that some things, and opinions, never seem to change.
