LCD And Viewfinder Closed Iris Problem Display Overlay Is Visible But Picture Is Black Subscribe: https://goo.gl/6u2E87 If you ever find that your Panasonic HCX1 viewfinder and LCD screen are showing nothing but black, and yet the display overlay settings are all still visible, the solution might be quite simple. The Cause: Your Iris Is Closed The Solution: Open The Iris OR The Cause: There Isn’t Enough Light The Solution: Brighten Up All Settings The first time this happened to me I was shooting some fireworks that were actually shooting debris into the crowd and towards my lens. I panicked and jumped out of the way, unbeknownst to me accidentally sliding the iris dial. I assumed the smoke had somehow broken my lens and I freaked out. However, the black screen was caused by 0 light coming into the sensor, because the Iris was accidentally moved to “Close”. Look at the bottom of the display, and see if it says “Close”. Or just hit the Iris button or move the wheel towards open. That should solve the problem. If not, you may have too many ND filters on. You may be in too dark a place and need to add gain. There are lots of different possibilities. But, if you turn all the brightest settings on, and you still can’t see, you may have a different problem (let us know in the comments).
