Chirchir Ready for 10,000-Meter Run at NCAA Championships West Preliminary Round Thursday

http://www.goutrgv.com SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) freshman runner Abraham Chirchir is set to race in the 10,000-meter run at the NCAA Championships West Preliminary Round on Thursday at Hornet Stadium. The 10,000-meter race begins at 11 p.m. with the top 12 advancing to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon on Wednesday, June 6. How Did You Get There? Chirchir qualified for the NCAA Championships West Preliminary Round with a time of 29:36.39 in the 10,000-meter run at the Raleigh Relays on March 30. He finished in 20th place out of 103 total runners. His qualifying time ranks second fastest in program history. Last Time Out Chirchir is coming off of the WAC Outdoor Championships where he was crowned WAC Champion in the 5,000-meter run while also adding a second-place finish in the 10,000-meter run. Chirchir was also named the WAC Freshman of the Year and earned First Team All-WAC honors for his performances. Next Up The NCAA Outdoor Championships will take place from June 6-9 in Eugene, Oregon hosted by the University of Oregon.
