This video shows how I created a sound like the brass lead in Mesa from the Blade Runner 2049 soundtrack. I used only Reason 10 stock instruments because I wanted more people to be able to do it themselves and possibly take it further. I made the combinator patch available for download if you want it. [Update - I revised the original patch to have less noise and it is more like the sound in the Mesa track. I also added a Reason project file that will play the patch to Demo it. If you play legato it doesn't trigger the filter attack. The patch from the video is still in there because it is just plain fun.] That link is as follows:

[Beware mediafire and the ads with phony download buttons. Just pay attention and make sure you are downloading the file - mesa_europa_2.zip]
If you manage to emulate the sound from Blade Runner 2029 yourself I would love to hear about it. Please leave comments on how you think I could improve this, or just tell me what you liked about it.
Creating this patch really increased my appreciation of the Europa synth from Reason 10. It is capable of synthesizing a wide array of timbres. The filters are awesome, and the distortion effect is very nice. Another important part of my sound in this patch is the distortion. I used the tube distortion, but found the sinusoidal distortion good as well. It was hard to choose. Another thing that is great about the synth is that the oscillators are dynamic with many ways to morph them over time.
