Former American Football player Orenthal James "O. J." Simpson, was born on 9 July 1947, in San Francisco, California, and also became well-known as an actor and broadcaster. In recent years, he has become just as well known for his problems with the law, including being charged with the murder of his ex-wife.

Generally known as O. J. or “The Juice”, Simpson was the son of Eunice and Jimmy Lee Simpson - his father became a noted drag queen, and actually died of AIDS; his parents separated in 1952. O.J. was afflicted with rickets as a child, and needed to wear leg braces. He was educated at Galileo High School, but was a mediocre student alleviated somewhat by his football skills. Later he continued his studies at City College of San Francisco, where he also was a part of the college team, which won the Prune Bowl, attracting the attention of several colleges, so Simpson transferred to the University of Southern California. He subsequently starred as a running back, with 1,543 yards and 13 touchdowns in in 1967, and 1,880 yards from 383 carries the following year.
In 1969 Simpson was the first selection in the AFL-NFL Common Draft by the Buffalo Bills, and was signed to the largest contract by a rookie at that time. However, he struggled under different coaches in his first few years, until setting a total of 1,251 yards in 1972 to lead the league. The next season he set an all-time rushing yards record of 2003, in the 14-game season as it then was, and was named NFL Player of the Year. He was also the rushing yards leader in 1975 and '76, hampered by injuries in other seasons, but still setting the career record for active players, and a game record of 273 yards on 29 carries.
In 1978 Simpson was traded to the San Francisco 49ers, compiling over 1,000 rushing yards, but then deciding to retire from playing football. In his career, he gained 11,236 rushing yards, then 2nd on the all-time list; he's the only player to record 200 yards rushing in six games in his career. He also played in six Pro Bowls, but unfortunately his teams were never good enough to reach the Super Bowl. Simpson was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985, the first year he was eligible.
Simpson then became known for his acting career, appearing in such movies as “Roots”, “Back to the Beach”, “Capricorn One”, “The Cassandra Crossing”, “The Naked Gun” among 30 appearances overall, which added to his net worth. O.J. was also a commentator for “Monday Night Football”, and appeared in “Saturday Night Live”.
